Byerly's Names Kersten as VP

Fine Foods here has named Keith Kersten vice president of perishable operations, a new position.

Kersten had been vice president of sales and food processing. The promotion brings much greater responsibility to Kersten, at a time of expansion for Byerly's, according to a statement from the company.

He retains his previous duties, including overseeing Byerly's restaurant operations, central processing facility and private- label product line. In addition, he oversees the company's deli, bakery, meat and produce operations. He reports to Dale Riley, president and chief operating officer.

Kersten, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, N.Y., joined Byerly's in 1979 as manager of food processing. In 1989, he become director of sales and food processing and was named vice president of that division a year later.

Byerly's operates 10 supermarkets in the Minneapolis market, and will open an 11th this fall. It opened the first of up to 10 stores in the Chicago area earlier this year.

Borden/Meadow Gold Taps Three

OGDEN, Utah -- As part of an ongoing restructuring, Borden/Meadow Gold Dairies here has created three new sales and marketing positions.

Randy Proctor, previously director of national accounts, has assumed the position of director of sales. He manages all aspects of corporate customer relations, according to Borden/Meadow Gold. Proctor continues existing initiatives with major customers, and will develop new programs.

Proctor will also develop and manage category management opportunities as they relate to the dairy business.

Scott Pevey was appointed director of marketing and oversees the development of marketing strategy and advertising programs to reflect that strategy. He is responsible for the firm's advertising and promotional support. Pevey also will manage new product development and introduction and packaging design. He had been regional sales manager of the Southwest region.

Pat Gadziala is newly hired by Borden/Meadow Gold after 18 years of experience in dairy licensing and brand development. With the new title of director of licensing, she is responsible for managing the Borden and Meadow Gold brands that have been licensed to other dairies and assists in the development of new licensing opportunities for the company.

The three executives report to John Duncan, vice president of sale and marketing.
