CGC Names New Board of Directors
of Certified Grocers of California, a cooperative wholesaler here, have elected officers to the board of directors.
Elected chairman for the fourth consecutive term was Willard R. "Bill" MacAloney, president and chief executive officer of Mac-Ber Inc., operator of four Jax Markets in Los Angeles and Orange County. MacAloney also is a board member of the Food Marketing Institute, the California Grocers Association and the Western Association of Food Chains.
Jay McCormack, owner and operator of Alamo Market, 29 Palms, Calif., was elected to his first term as first vice chairman. Darioush Khaledi, chairman and chief executive officer of K.V. Mart Co., Los Angeles, was elected to his second term as second vice chairman.
Bruno's Appoints Controller
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- William David "Dave" Walters has been named controller at Bruno's here.
Reporting to Alan Reed, interim chief financial officer, Walters replaces former controller James T. Boone, who left the 256-store chain to pursue other opportunities, a spokeswoman said.
Walters comes to Bruno's from Abco Markets, Phoenix. He is a 30-year veteran of the supermarket industry.
AWG Names Merchandising VP
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Associated Wholesale Grocers here has promoted Lucky Hicks to vice president of merchandising and marketing for the Springfield division.
Formerly the executive director of perishables merchandising, a position he was appointed to last year, Hicks reports to Maurice Henry, senior vice president and the Springfield division manager.
Hicks joined Associated Wholesale Grocers in 1992 as director of meat merchandising. He previously worked for Kroger Co.
Big V Taps Human Resources VP
FLORIDA, N.Y. -- Big V Supermarkets here has named Don Trella as vice president of human resources. He succeeds Tom Hoskison, who has left the company.
Trella formerly was director of human resources for Big Y Supermarkets, Springfield, Mass. At Big V, he will report to Joseph V. Fisher, president and chief executive officer of the 30-store ShopRite chain, part of the Wakefern Food cooperative.
Asparagus Club Names Officers
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Tom Jackson, president and chief executive officer of the Ohio Grocers Association here, has been named president of the Asparagus Club, an organization of food industry executives from the United States and Canada.
Jim Keller, president of The Keller Group, Killington, Vt., was named the Asparagus Club's executive director. The club currently is engaged in a $1 million fund-raising campaign to endow scholarships for individuals working in the grocery business. Additionally, at the Ohio Grocers Association, Kristin M. Corsale was promoted to vice president. She previously was director of marketing.
