Food Lion Adds Food Safety Post

n here has appointed James R. Ball to the new position of food safety manager, bringing in-house a function that Ball has been performing for the chain as a consultant.

Ball, a food scientist, joins Food Lion from the Webb Technical Group, Raleigh, N.C., which has been the retailer's food safety consultant for the past four years. His post at the Webb Technical Group was food scientist and director of the food consulting division.

In his new position at Food Lion, Ball is responsible for directing food safety and government compliance activities. He is a member of the Institute of Food Technologists and the American Meat Science Association.

At Food Lion, Ball reports to Lester Nail, vice president.

Hazelwood Names Food-Service VP

ST. LOUIS -- Hazelwood Farms Bakeries, a frozen-dough manufacturer here, has named John G. Updegraff to the position of vice president and chief customer officer for food service.

He was with Sara Lee Corp., Chicago, for 12 years, most recently as vice president of sales for the food-service division.

In his new post, Updegraff reports to Walter Van Benthuysen, chairman and chief executive officer.

Bakers Pride Appoints President

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Bakers Pride Oven Co. here, a manufacturer of baking and broiling equipment, has named Paul K. Angrick president.

He succeeds Tom Nixon who has retired from the company after 15 years. Nixon will have charge of Bakers Pride UK Limited, according to a company spokesman.

Angrick was most recently general manager of Dean Industries, Gardena, Calif. Prior to that, he was executive director of marketing for Frymaster Corp., Shreveport, La. He reports to the board of directors of Bakers Pride Oven Co.

In another development, Bakers Pride and its parent company, APW/Wyott, a food-service equipment manufacturer based in Dallas, have named Carl D. Stuckey to the new position of vice president of international sales and marketing, for both companies.

Stuckey was most recently director of international sales for Aladdin Synergetics, a Nashville, Tenn.-based manufacturer of meal-delivery systems and insulated cups. He had been there since 1995. Prior to that, he held management positions with companies including Frymaster, Packard Instrument and Flick/Reedy Corp.

In his new post, Stuckey reports to Lawrence Rosenbloom, president of APW/Wyott.
