Albertson's Assigns Mecham
echam has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president of general merchandise sales at Albertson's here. He directs and supervises the merchandising of all nonfood within the company.
Mecham, who has 15 years experience with the grocery chain, was previously director of general merchandise sales.
Kaleel Named Vons Director
ARCADIA, Calif. -- John Kaleel has been promoted to the newly created position of director of general merchandise and health and beauty care at The Vons Cos. He previously served as category manager of the drug store division.
In his new position, Kaleel is responsible for managing all general merchandise and HBC category divisions. He reports to Paul Knerr, vice president of pharmacy. In his 18-year career with Vons, Kaleel has held a variety of story manager, operations and category manager positions with the company.
Kash n' Karry Taps Highsmith
TAMPA, Fla. -- Bob Highsmith, vice president of sales and marketing, grocery at Kash n' Karry Food Stores here, has assumed the additional duties formerly held by Gary Shell, vice president of marketing and nonperishables, who passed away in March. Shell was responsible for the chain's general merchandise and HBC operations.
