Haggen Promotes Lamb

-- Haggen Inc., operators of 21 Haggen Food and Pharmacy and Top Foods stores, has promoted Julie Lamb to the position of vice president of perishables and food service.

In this newly created corporate position, Lamb will oversee day-to-day operations of both departments, reporting to Jeff Haggen, vice president of sales and merchandising. She is also responsible for the implementation of new programs. Most recently, she helped develop a new line of deli salads for the chain in cooperation with renowned television chef and cookbook author Graham Kerr.

Prior to this, Lamb was director of food service for the independent retailer. She joined Haggen in 1995 as service-deli merchandiser after an 18-year tenure at Fred Meyer Inc.

United Names Key Managers

LUBBOCK, Texas -- United Supermarkets here has named Mark Keefer and Chris Wilson to two newly created positions.

Keefer joins United as manager of food safety. In this position, he will develop and implement a comprehensive food-safety training and awareness program for United's 4,000 employees. Previously, Keefer served as environmental inspection services coordinator for the City of Lubbock Health and Community Service Division. He reports to vice president and chief operating officer, Ken Melville.

Wilson has been hired as the company's corporate executive chef. He will develop recipes and menus for United's Market Street stores, Henry D's restaurants and other food-service operations. In addition, he will train the company's food-service staff in culinary skills, quality control, sanitation, certification and food presentation. Wilson was most recently executive chef for Texas Tech University. He reports to Joe Womble, assistant director of perishables.

United Supermarkets operates 39 stores in 21 Texas markets and currently is constructing new stores in Amarillo, Muleshoe and Snyder.

Big V Appoints Deli Director

FLORIDA, N.Y. -- Big V/ShopRite here has named Linda Trama director of deli for the entire 32-unit chain. Her responsibilities include overall management of the division, coordination of merchandising, sales planning and purchasing.

Prior to this, she was deli product manager. Trama joined the company 19 years ago as a meat wrapper. During her career, she has been named to positions of increasing responsibility, including deli manager and deli specialist.

Big V operates stores in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey under the ShopRite banner, and is the largest member of the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative, Elizabeth, N.J.
