fort to increase outside representation on its board, Food Lion here has named Margaret Kluttz a director.

Kluttz is the mayor of Salisbury. As a board member, she succeeds Dan A. Boone, Food Lion's chief financial officer. Boone will continue as chief financial officer and as an adviser to the 10-member board.

Kluttz, who has been Salisbury's mayor since 1991, is Food Lion's fourth outside director.

Tom Smith, chairman, president and chief executive officer, said Kluttz's "understanding of trends in public opinion and consumer needs will serve us well as we continue building a customer-centered company for the 21st century."

Additionally, Food Lion said the provisions of a renewed shareholders agreement between Food Lion and its majority shareholder, Delhaize "Le Lion" of Brussels, "reaffirm the commitment of Delhaize to its 20-year business association with Food Lion." Under terms of the agreement, which extends until 2001, Smith and his management team retain full responsibility for day-to-day management of the company.

Bruno's Names Two To New Positions

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Bruno's here has named Terry Troup director of marketing, a new position.

Troup, who began his career with Bruno's as a bagger more than 25 years ago, most recently was a retail coordinator. He also has held positions as an assistant manager, co-manager and grocery buyer.

In his new position, Troup is responsible for special projects and promotional activities. He reports to Robert F. Johnson, senior vice president of marketing.

Additionally, J. Houston Cook has been named director of advertising for Bruno's, also a new position. He is responsible for all newspaper, television and radio advertising.

Cook joined Bruno's in 1992 after receiving a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University. He has worked in various departments, most recently in advertising. Cook also reports to Johnson.

SQS Adds Merchandising VP

PHOENIX -- SQS Inc. here has named Michael Steinke vice president of sales and merchandising, a new position.

Steinke was head grocery buyer. He continues to oversee buying and adds responsibility for sales and procurement of all product for SQS' retail and redistribution divisions. Steinke reports to Robert Smyser, president.

Danny Murray, formerly a store manager, has been named manager of store operations, also a new position. He reports to Dale Smyser, vice president.

Tom Bartelme, formerly general manager of Neb's Markets here, has been named manager of distribution services for SQS Trading Co., a new position. He reports to Robert Smyser.

Winn-Dixie Appoints 3 Execs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here has made three personnel changes in its Louisville, Ky., division office.

Jim Sneed has been named manager of the reclaim center. Sneed, who was a category and direct-store-delivery buyer, succeeds Jack Tompkins. Tompkins retired after a 42-year career with Winn-Dixie.

Dean Johns has been named to succeed Sneed as a category and DSD buyer. Johns, who was a grocery buyer, has responsibility for buying merchandise directly from vendors.

Mark Jenkins has been named grocery category manager, which is a new title for Johns' previous grocery buyer position. Jenkins' responsibilities include category management, grocery buying, deal negotiations and new-item decisions. Jenkins, who has been with the company for 20 years, most recently was manager of a Winn-Dixie store in Owensboro, Ky.
