Edwards Appoints VP for North Region
osa was named vice president of store operations of the North Region by Edwards Super Food Stores here. He is responsible for units in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Posa joined Edwards in 1986 as a store manager on Long Island. He was most recently director of operations for Rhode Island.
Posa succeeds Carl Schlicker, who was named vice president of operations for the West Region. In this new position, Schlicker is responsible for stores in New Jersey.
Both Posa and Schlicker report to Paul Puka, executive vice president of store operations.
Tops Taps Fitzgerald As New Senior VP
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Tops Markets here has named Tom Fitzgerald senior vice president of real estate, a new title with new responsibilities. With this appointment, Fitzgerald becomes a member of Tops' executive committee.
In his new position, he oversees the real estate, legal and construction services departments. He reports to Larry Castellani, president and chief executive officer of Tops.
Fitzgerald was most recently vice president of real estate. He joined Tops in 1991 as director of real estate.
Quarmby Leaving J. Sainsbury
LONDON (FNS) -- J. Sainsbury here said its joint managing director, David Quarmby, resigned as a result of the company's management reshuffling announced in January. The reshuffling was aimed at revitalizing its British supermarket operations. The resignation is effective April 30.
Quarmby joined Sainsbury in 1984 as distribution director and was named joint managing director in 1988. He was responsible for group services as well as business development and corporate strategy.
No one will be named to succeed Quarmby, the company said. Instead, Rosemary Thorne, the group's finance director, and Ian Coull, its property director -- both of whom previously reported to Quarmby -- now will report directly to David Sainsbury, chairman.
Tom Vyner, the group's other joint managing director and its deputy chairman, was named head of its British supermarket businesses.
Vyner is succeeded as deputy chairman by Dino Adriano, head of Sainsbury's U.S. supermarket business, Shaw's Supermarkets, East Bridgewater, Mass., as well as its British hardware chain, Homebase.
Head of Arizona Group Retiring
PHOENIX -- Paul Bennewitz, president of the Arizona Food Marketing Alliance here, said he will retire April 30, a week after his 65th birthday. He has held the post for 19 years.
He will be succeeded by Dwayne Richard, 37, who for the most recent nine years was president of the Nebraska Retail Federation, which represents that state's entire retail industry, including grocers. He also is a lobbyist for the Nebraska Retail Grocers Association. Previously, Richard was president of the Wyoming Retail Merchants Association.
