MAULDIN, S.C. -- Bi-Lo here has announced three appointments.

Jon Wilken has been named to the new post of executive vice president and chief operating officer. Wilken joined Bi-Lo in 1988 as executive vice president of sales and marketing. In addition to continuing the marketing and distribution functions of his previous position, Wilken now oversees store operations. He reports to Marsh Collins, president and chief executive officer of Bi-Lo.

Frank Curci has been named to another new post as executive vice president of finance and development. He also has assumed the position of chief financial officer. Curci came to Bi-Lo in 1996 as executive vice president of store development. He also reports to Collins.

With Bi-Lo since 1992, Bart Coleman has been appointed to the new post of vice president of real estate. He continues to oversee company properties and develop new purchases and leases. Coleman reports to Curci.

Bi-Lo operates 255 retail stores in the Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee.

FDI Appoints Three Officers

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- Food Distributors International here approved three new appointments.

John Gray, International Foodservice Distributors Association executive director and FDI vice president/general counsel, was named IFDA president and FDI executive vice president. He retains his title of FDI general counsel.

Mary Jorgenson, FDI vice president for finance and administration, was named FDI chief financial officer.

Paul Schulz, FDI vice president for industry relations and membership, was appointed senior vice president.

All three report to John R. Block, FDI president.

Three Tapped by Giant Food

LANDOVER, Md. -- Giant Food here has named M. Davis (Dave) Herriman chief merchandising officer; John P. Mason senior vice president of perishables operations; and Mary McWaters vice president for dairy, deli, meat and seafood operations.

Herriman, who joined Giant in 1960 as a scholarship intern, has spent much of his career in grocery operations, most recently as senior vice president of grocery. In 1963 he was named a grocery buyer and in 1966 became senior grocery buyer. By 1980 Herriman was the director of grocery purchasing and in 1985 he was appointed vice president of grocery operations. In his new post, he reports to Pete Manos, president and chief executive officer of Giant.

Mason, who in his new position reports to Herriman, began working at Giant as a produce clerk in 1972. After having various other positions within the company, Mason became director of produce and floral merchandising in 1989, and in 1996 was named to his most recent post of vice president of produce operations.

Mason is now responsible for the buying and merchandising operations for all produce, dairy, deli, meat and seafood.

McWaters succeeds George Hannis as vice president for dairy, deli, meat and seafood operations. Hannis retired from the position he has held since 1985.

McWaters, who came to Giant in 1974 as a retail trainee, was most recently director of operations development. She reports to Mason.
