Three New Posts Added by Baker's

markets here has named Sherry Burghardt information technology programmer and analyst, and Clarance Jones IT senior systems analyst. In addition, Baker's has named Debbie Mell assistant director of card marketing. All three are new positions.

Burghardt is focusing on programming and software development for the retailer's AS/400 system. She started working at Baker's in 1987 as a cashier before joining Baker's IT department five years ago. Jones' new responsibilities are to design and develop computer software for Baker's. He worked for two years in software development for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. before coming to Baker's.

Both Jones and Burghardt report directly to Irene Nelson, assistant director of IT for Baker's. Mell's responsibilities now include analyzing customer-purchase data for Baker's Value Card promotions, and other promotional events. She reports to Stephen Zubrod, vice president of marketing.

Most recently, Mell was the customer category manager in the marketing department. Mell, who joined Baker's as a cashier, has held various positions throughout a 21-year career with the retailer.

Consultants Join Retail Systems

NAPLES, Fla. -- Retail Systems Consulting here has added two new consultants to its practice. William Brodbeck and Marv Imus are focusing on helping retailers develop and improve their loyalty programs.

Brodbeck is the retired chief executive officer of Brodbeck Enterprises, Platteville, Wis., which operates eight Dick's Supermarkets. Beginning in 1983, he developed the company's overall frequent-shopper marketing strategy.

Imus, co-owner of Paw Paw Shopping Center, Paw Paw, Mich., will continue his store operations role and consult part-time. He began collecting transaction data via a card-based frequent-shopper program in 1989, and has developed a data warehouse of customer-specific purchase.
