CEO Appointed for SuperPetz

SUNBURY, Pa. -- Weis Markets here said Brad Phillips has been named president and chief executive officer of SuperPetz, the chain's pet supply retail subsidiary.

Phillips, 45, has worked for Pier 1 Imports, Dallas, for the past 20 years, ending his career there as vice president and Eastern zone manager. At Weis he reports to Norman S. Rich, president.

"Brad Phillips has a strong background in retail operations and merchandising," Rich said. "In particular, he has excelled at building and managing a retail organization at store level."

Weis purchased 80% ownership of SuperPetz, a two-store operation based in Dayton, Ohio, in early 1994. The company has subsequently grown to 43 stores in 11 states. According to Rich, SuperPetz encountered operational problems that affected its profitability, which prompted Weis to assume control three months ago of the company's day-to-day operations, which are now Phillips' responsibility.
