Three Executives Named by Kroger

e has announced a series of executive appointments at the corporate and division levels.

Don W. McGeorge, president of the Columbus KMA, was named a senior vice president. He reports to David Dillon, president and chief operating officer.

McGeorge succeeds Patrick J. Kenney, who retired after 42 years. McGeorge became president of the Columbus KMA in January. Previously, he was president of the Michigan KMA for four years, and has held a variety of merchandising positions throughout the company. He joined Kroger as a store co-manager in Louisville after graduating from Eastern Kentucky University in 1977.

Bruce A. Lucia, president of the Michigan KMA, was named president of the Columbus KMA He succeeds and reports to McGeorge.

Lucia joined Kroger in 1975 after graduating from the University of Georgia and has held a variety of management positions in the company's Atlanta, Nashville and Central (Indianapolis) KMAs, prior to coming to Columbus as vice president of operations in mid-1995. He later became vice president of merchandising before being named executive vice president of the Michigan KMA in August 1996. He became president of the Michigan division in December.

M. Marnette Perry, vice president of merchandising for Kroger's Memphis-based Delta KMA, was named president of the Michigan KMA. She succeeds Lucia and reports to McGeorge. Perry joined Kroger while an education major at Ohio University, and has held a variety of produce merchandising positions and was instrumental in the development of Kroger's in-store floral shops. She was corporate director of produce merchandising and procurement from 1989 to 1991, prior to being appointed to the Delta KMA.

Kroger has 16 divisions, called Kroger Marketing Areas, and operates more than 1,350 supermarkets in 24 states.

LOS ANGELES -- Smart & Final here has appointed Gerry Good to the new position of executive vice president of marketing/concept development. In this role, Good oversees and provides strategic direction to the company's marketing, buying, merchandising, distribution and corporate brands departments. He reports to Roger M. Laverty 3rd, president and chief executive officer. Good, 54, joins Smart & Final after 14 years with Montvale, N.J.-based A&P, where he was most recently executive vice president of merchandising and marketing. While at A&P,

Good was the leader of the company's customer relationship marketing program and launched Super Fresh Food Markets, building it to a $500 million business. In addition, he was chief executive officer of A&P Canada for two years.

Smart & Final's 170 nonmembership warehouse food stores target food-service businesses in California, Arizona, Nevada, Florida and northern Mexico.
