Wakefern Taps Produce, Floral VP

Food Corp. here has named "Al" Umberto Ferri vice president of produce and floral, a position that has been vacant for several years.

Ferri is responsible for sales and merchandising programs in both floral and produce departments.

He reports to Frank Rostan, vice president of perishables.

Ferri joined Wakefern in 1972 as a produce merchandiser/specialist. Since then, he has held various positions with the company, most recently as senior manager for produce.

Wakefern is a retailer-owned cooperative, and the wholesale merchandising and distribution arm for ShopRite supermarkets in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Delaware.

PBH Foundation Reorganizes Staff

NEWARK, Del. -- The Produce for Better Health Foundation has reorganized its staff, in what it calls an effort to develop stronger industry partnerships and relationships.

Chuck Sample, who was formerly director of membership and fundraising, is now regional marketing director, East. In this new position, Sample will work with members, potential members, potential partners and 5 a Day coalitions.

The foundation is currently in the process of hiring a West Coast marketing director.

Beth Ferry, the former administration manager, has taken on additional membership responsibilities and a new title, director of administration and membership.

Loretta Sharkey, who was formerly membership services coordinator, is now assistant manager of administration and membership. Amy Toomey has been moved from communications and promotions assistant to communications and promotions coordinator. Barbara Gochnauer, formerly membership services assistant, is now executive assistant.

Mike Gretz, executive director of the foundation, said in a statement,"The reorganization of staff reflects PBH's commitment to providing the highest possible level of effectiveness in developing 5 a Day products and delivering services.

"This move represents a shift towards a marketing-oriented outreach."
