er Corp. here has named Miles L. Marsh president, chief executive officer and a member of its board, effective Oct. 2.

He succeeds Bob Williams, the James River co-founder who had been chairman, president and chief executive officer. Williams will remain chairman until he retires at the end of the year, at which time Marsh will also assume the chairmanship of James River.

Marsh, 48, had most recently been chairman and chief executive officer of Pet Inc., St. Louis, prior to its sale to Grand Metropolitan in March.

With annual sales of $6 billion, James River is a leading manufacturer and marketer of consumer paper products. Its brands include Northern bathroom tissue, Brawny paper towels, Dixie cups and plates, Quilt-Rap sandwich wrap, Qwik Wave microwave packaging, Eureka! recycled copy paper and Word Pro copy paper.

McCormick Taps Operating Chief

SPARKS, Md. -- McCormick & Co. here has named Robert J. Lawless executive vice president and chief operating officer. Lawless assumes the chief operating officer duties of H. Eugene Blattman, who remains president and chief executive officer.

Lawless will oversee all McCormick global units, with the exception of the Packaging group, Mexico and Latin America. He has held several key positions since joining the company in 1977, most recently as senior vice president for the Americas. Lawless reports to Blattman.

Robert W. Schroeder has been named vice president and general manager of the company's McCormick/Schilling division, assuming several of Lawless' former duties.

Schroeder joined McCormick's Tubed Products subsidiary, based in Easthampton, Mass., in 1985 as vice president of sales and marketing, and was named president of the subsidiary in 1986. He also has been vice president of the Packaging group for McCormick and was named vice president of sales and marketing for the McCormick/Schilling division in 1994, his most recent position. A successor has not been named to that post. He reports to Lawless.

McCormick is a producer of spices, seasonings, flavorings and specialty foods.

Nash Finch Adds Four Positions

MINNEAPOLIS -- Nash Finch Co. here has reorganized its grocery marketing department, resulting in a series of new positions.

Doug Domine has been named to the new position of director of grocery marketing. He is responsible for all aspects of grocery marketing, merchandising and procurement for Nash Finch. Domine joins Nash Finch from Harris Teeter, Charlotte, N.C. He reports to Chuck Ramsbacher, vice president of marketing.

Bob Dernbach has been named manager of grocery procurement. In addition to his current role in directing Nash Finch's Regional Buy initiative, he will now assist in developing performance measurements for inventory turns and inventory levels. He is also responsible for the corporate diverting effort, as well as buying for consolidated warehouses and buying systems coordination. Prior to his latest positions, Dernbach was head buyer at Nash Finch's Cedar Rapids, Iowa, office.

Curt Funk has been named manager of grocery merchandising. He is responsible for coordinating and developing the overall grocery, frozens and dairy merchandising and promotional programs. He will now also assist in developing category management and in evaluating Nash Finch's branded vendor network for incremental selling opportunities. Funk was manager of corporate merchandising.

Dick Hamblin has been named manager of corporate brands. He assumes total responsibility for Nash Finch's private-label program. Hamblin was manager of corporate merchandising.

Dernbach, Funk and Hamblin report to Domine.

Farm Fresh Names Grocery VP

NORFOLK, Va. -- Farm Fresh here has appointed Rick Bullock vice president of grocery, frozen food and dairy.

Bullock most recently was director of those departments. He retains his duties from that position and will handle additional responsibilities as vice president. He reports directly to Michael Julian, chairman, president and chief executive officer.

With the supermarket chain for 10 years, Bullock has also served as a buyer and head buyer. He has more than 25 years of experience in the industry.
