Cummins Named VP Store Operations At Food 4 Less
LOS ANGELES -- Food 4 Less here said it has promoted Jay Cummins to vice president and general manager in its store operations department, reporting directly to Dave Hirz, president, Food 4 Less. In his new position Cummins will be responsible for overseeing Food 4 Less' expansion into the Midwest. Prior to his promotion, Cummins was district manager overseeing 17 Food 4 Less stores in San Bernardino and Riverside counties and Las Vegas. In southern California, Food 4 Less is a price-impact banner operated by Kroger Co., Cincinnati.
Stop & Shop Names Berman Executive VP
QUINCY, Mass. -- Stop & Shop Supermarkets here said last week Barry Berman has been named executive vice president for marketing and procurement. He succeeds George Pauley, who will retire next month. Earlier in his career, Berman had a variety of positions with Stop & Shop before joining Bradlees, Braintree, Mass., in 1990. At Bradlees, he was senior vice president of sales and procurement and then chairman and chief executive officer for two years before retiring.
Ahold Promotes Smits To Executive VP
ZAANDAM, Netherlands -- Ahold here said last week it has named Jeroen Smits executive vice president, buying and merchandising, at its Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn, effective immediately. Smits succeeds Tom Heidman, who is stepping down at his own request. Smits is currently president and chief executive officer of Gall & Gall, Ahold's Dutch chain of wine and liquor stores. In his new position, Smits will be responsible for all procurement and marketing activities at Albert Heijn, the company said.
