In the new position, Haugarth is responsible for activity costing, business analysis, corporate payroll, central disbursements and self-audit. Haugarth has held several positions since joining the company in 1974 and most recently served as vice president of finance for Supervalu's Midwest region.

Smith, who joined the company nine years ago, oversees corporate accounting, electronic commerce, sales analysis and credit in the new post. She formerly was the director of finance and accounting for Supervalu's Advantage re-engineering initiative, and has helped regionalize finance and accounting functions.

Haugarth and Smith report to Isaiah Harris, corporate vice president and controller.

Pathmark's Sorkin Receives Award

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. -- Stan Sorkin, vice president of public affairs at Pathmark Stores here, has been honored with the 1996 Food Council Committee for Good Government Award.

The award is presented annually to an individual who exemplifies the spirit of public-policy leadership and effective government in the grocery industry. Sorkin will receive the award Sept. 25 at the committee's Good Government Breakfast here.

Sorkin has been at Pathmark since 1967 and is active in local community events, government relations and charity work. He also has spearheaded industry efforts in workmen's compensation reform in New York and Pennsylvania and is an advocate of supermarket development in the inner city.

"Stan Sorkin is a champion of food-industry public-affairs issues and continually demonstrates true commitment and leadership," said James C. Morford, treasurer of the committee and president of the New Jersey Food Council.
