- Haggen Inc. has announced the promotion of Jeff Haggen to vice president, perishables and e-commerce, as part of a company reorganization. In his expanded role, Haggen oversees produce, meat and seafood. Julie Lamb, vice president, fresh food, has relinquished her responsibilities for those categories to concentrate on bakery, deli, garden/floral and food service.

Most recently, Haggen served as vice president, e-commerce, launching the retailer's on-line shopping system. Starting his career at Haggen in 1978, he served in various positions such as store manager, grocery buyer, manager of finance and real estate, and vice president of sales and merchandising. Haggen operates 26 supermarkets in Washington state and Oregon under the names Haggen Food & Pharmacy and Top Food & Drug.

Schnuck Promotes Deli Official

ST. LOUIS -- Schnuck Markets has promoted Ed Meyer to vice president of deli/seafood/prepared foods, a newly created position within the company, which operates 92 stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. Prior to this, he had been director of deli/seafood/carryout for 12 years. Meyer joined Schnucks in 1976 as a meat cutter at the Schnucks Riverview Circle store in St. Louis. In his new position, Meyer reports to Randy Wedel, senior vice president of marketing and merchandising.

Miner Joins Restaurant Group

CHICAGO -- Former Technomic principal Tom Miner has joined the Lettuce Consulting Group -- a company newly spun off from the consulting division of Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises here -- as vice president of marketing and director of manufacturer practice.

Miner, with Technomic for seven and a half years, numbered many supermarkets among his clients. They included Genuardi's Family Markets, Norristown, Pa.; Ball's Food Stores, Kansas City, Kan.; and Pick n Save, West Bend, Wis. He also helped develop the program for Washington-based Food Marketing Institute's 1999 Meal Solutions Conference in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In his new post, Miner reports to John J. Buchanan, a long-time LEYE partner who has been named president of Lettuce Consulting.

Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, founded and directed by Rich Melman, is best known for developing innovative restaurant concepts. They include 4-star fine dining restaurants such as Ambria, Everest and Tru, and casual dining successes such as Corner Bakery, foodlife, Maggiano's Little Italy, Scoozi! and WildFire. Now the company is looking "to do some groundbreaking work with big retail chains," Miner told SN.
