WINCO'S LONG RETIRES; GODDARD NAMED CEO BOISE, Idaho WinCo Foods said Steven L. Goddard, president, has added the title of chief executive officer following the retirement of William D. Long. Long, 69, who headed the company since leading a buyout from the founding family in 1985, retired Dec. 31. The company said he will continue to serve as non-executive chairman. Goddard joined WinCo in May 1998

WINCO'S LONG RETIRES; GODDARD NAMED CEO

BOISE, Idaho — WinCo Foods said Steven L. Goddard, president, has added the title of chief executive officer following the retirement of William D. Long. Long, 69, who headed the company since leading a buyout from the founding family in 1985, retired Dec. 31. The company said he will continue to serve as non-executive chairman. Goddard joined WinCo in May 1998 as vice president, produce, after working for more than 20 years in various produce-related positions at Kroger, Safeway and Food 4 Less. He was named president in October. In another change, Rich Charrier has succeeded Scott R. Preece as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Preece, 61, who also served as the company's vice chairman, retired in October after 30 years with WinCo. He will continue as the board's non-executive vice chairman. WinCo operates 54 discount supermarkets in five Western states.

NASH FINCH HIRES SPINAZZE, STRZELCZYK

MINNEAPOLIS — Nash Finch Co. last week said it has hired two executives from companies in the Northeast. Gary Spinazze, formerly with Bozzuto's, Cheshire, Conn., was named vice president, vendor relations, and Tom Strzelczyk, who had been with Price Chopper, Schenectady, N.Y., was named vice president, food distribution, Great Lakes Region. Spinazze and Strzelczyk will report to Christopher Brown, executive vice president, food distribution. Spinazze most recently was director of corporate programs and trade relations for Bozzuto's. He held a number of executive positions at Nash Finch from 1999 to 2004, and previously had been with Richfood Holdings and Roundy's. Strzelczyk most recently was senior vice president, operations, Price Chopper, and before that had positions with Roundy's, Fleming and Richfood Holdings.

RACHEK NAMED CORPORATE CONTROLLER AT KING KULLEN

BETHPAGE, N.Y. — King Kullen Grocery Co. said it has named Timothy Rachek corporate controller. The post has been vacant since Jim Flynn was named senior vice president, finance and administration, several years ago. Rachek, 45, was previously director of accounting and assistant controller. He has been working in King Kullen's accounting department for 24 years. Rachek will oversee accounting systems and reporting procedures; administer and review existing internal controls; and handle corporate tax matters and coordinate them with the chain's outside accounting firm.

JACKSON RESIGNS AS HEAD OF WAL-MART PROCUREMENT

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores said Lawrence Jackson, president and chief executive officer of global procurement, has resigned, effective Feb. 9, and that Jeff Macho has been promoted to senior vice president of global procurement, effective immediately. Jackson joined Wal-Mart in 2004 from Dollar General Corp., where he was president and chief operating officer, and before that he had been an executive at Safeway and PepsiCo. In a prepared statement, he said he wanted to spend more time with his family. Macho, based in Shenzen, China, joined Wal-Mart in 2005 as vice president and managing director of apparel merchandising in global procurement. Separately, Wal-Mart promoted Charles Holley to executive vice president, finance, and treasurer. He had been senior vice president. Jay Fitzsimmons, currently senior vice president, treasurer, will retire Jan. 31.

TARGET TAPS STEINHAFEL TO SERVE AS DIRECTOR

MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. here said Gregg Steinhafel, president, has been appointed to the company's board of directors. The 12-member board has 10 independent directors and two executive officers — Steinhafel and Bob Ulrich, chairman and chief executive officer.
