Megafoods Names President at Handy Andy

MESA, Ariz. -- Thomas Remy has been named president of Handy Andy, San Antonio, a wholly owned subsidiary of Megafoods Stores here.

Remy was vice president of operations at Handy Andy. No successor will be named to that position.

Remy reports to Dean Miller, chairman and chief executive officer of Megafoods.

The position of president of Handy Andy had been vacant since Megafoods acquired the 21-store chain in mid-April and merged it with its 15-store Texans operation.

David Salazar, who was president under Handy Andy's previous ownership, was named vice president of finance and administration at the time of the Megafoods' deal. Megafoods officials said last week Salazar has left the company and no successor will be named to his position.

In addition Mike Crain has been named vice president of merchandising at Handy Andy, a new position. Crain was director of grocery merchandising, a position that will not be filled.

Crain reports to Remy.

At the corporate level, Megafoods named Fred Ries vice president of marketing and procurement, a new position. Ries formerly worked for Smith's Food & Drug, Salt Lake City. He reports to Miller.
