P&G VETERAN MONTOYA JOINS KROGER'S BOARD
CINCINNATI — Kroger Co. said last week that Jorge P. Montoya has been elected to the company's board of directors. Montoya spent more than 30 years with Procter & Gamble Co., where he held company leadership positions in Latin America, Europe and the U.S. He retired in 2004 after serving as president of Global Snacks & Beverages and president, Latin America. He currently serves on the boards of Rohm & Haas Co. and Gap Inc. Montoya will serve on Kroger's board until the company's annual meeting of shareholders in June 2007, when he will stand for election by the shareholders. With Montoya's election, the Kroger board now has 16 members.
UNITED NATURAL ADDS VP OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
DAYVILLE, Conn. — United Natural Foods has promoted Thomas Dziki to the newly created position of vice president of sustainable development. Dziki, 45, joined the company in 2002 and has held a number of positions; he was most recently national vice president of real estate and construction, which he will continue to oversee, including such aspects as energy-saving building design, indoor air quality assurance and zero-waste programs. “United Natural Foods is committed to enhancing our environmental sustainability practices on a companywide level,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Funk. “Tom has a diverse operating background in architecture, construction and conservation efforts, which makes him well suited for this important new role.”
EARTH FARE MARKET NAMES COLEMAN VP OF REAL ESTATE
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Earth Fare Market and Café has appointed Bart Coleman the company's new vice president of real estate and development. He comes to the job after spending 15 years at Bi-Lo supermarkets, the past 11 as vice president of real estate. Prior to that, he was with Fleming Cos.' Mid-America region as the regional store development manager, and with Kroger Co. Jim St. Charles, Earth Fare's previous vice president of real estate and construction, is now vice president of construction and engineering. Earth Fare's current plans call for two stores in 2007, one in Augusta, Ga., and the company's second Charlotte, N.C., store, in South Park. Starting in 2008, the chain anticipates growth at four to eight stores per year. Earth Fare Market & Café operates 11 stores throughout the Southeast.
NOE APPOINTED VP OF REGULATORY AFFAIRS AT GMA/FPA
WASHINGTON — Paul Noe has been named vice president of regulatory affairs for the Grocery Manufacturers/Food Products Association here. Most recently, Noe was a partner at C&M Capitollink and legal counsel for Crowell & Moring's Environmental & Natural Resources group, working on policy, legal, political and technical issues in areas such as environment and natural resources, food and drug, agriculture, biotechnology, emerging contaminants and energy. From 2001 to 2006, he served in the Bush administration as counselor to Administrator John Graham at the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Office of Management and Budget, and from 1995 to 2001, he was senior counsel to the U.S. Senate Government Affairs Committee. In his new position at GMA/FMA, Noe will be the chief advisor and advocate on legislation and regulation related to environmental issues and consumer products, particularly those involving the Environmental Protection Agency, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and sustainability issues.
ACOSTA NAMES EULBERG EVP, HUMAN RESOURCES
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Acosta Sales and Marketing Co. here has named Joe Eulberg executive vice president of human resources. He will have responsibility for all Acosta human resources operations and will ensure that all human resources functions align with and support the organization's business strategy. He will report directly to Gary Chartrand, chairman and chief executive officer. Eulberg has more than 20 years of human resources experience, most recently as senior vice president of human resources for Nash Finch Co. Prior to that, Eulberg worked at 7-Eleven as vice president of human resources and in senior-level human resources positions with Motel 6, Anheuser-Busch and Pier 1 Imports.
