Foundation Taps Deputy Director

for Better Health Foundation here has named Elizabeth Pivonka deputy executive director, a new position.

She reports to Robert Carey, president of the Produce Marketing Association, who is serving as the foundation's interim executive director until a replacement is found for Brian Krieg, who left last November.

Previously, Pivonka was director of nutrition for both the Produce for Better Health Foundation, co-sponsor of the national 5 a Day for Better Health program, and PMA. She has been with PMA since 1990. With her new position, she is giving up her duties at PMA. A registered dietitian, she has a Ph.D in food and nutrition science from Kansas State University.

The foundation said it hopes to name a successor to Krieg by its April board meeting, and has hired Albert J. Walsh & Associates, Newton, Pa., to help.

Edwards Names Beaulieu VP

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. -- Edwards Super Food Stores here has named Jeffrey Beaulieu vice president of produce merchandising, a new position.

He is responsible for all aspects of produce buying and merchandising. He reports to Steve Kaczynski, vice president of perishables merchandising. Previously, Beaulieu was director of produce merchandising. He has worked for Edwards for 22 years, almost entirely in the produce area.

Edwards Super Food Stores operates 70 units in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Machamer Appointed Director

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association here has named Molly Machamer director of industry relations. She assumes several duties of Amy Vreeland, who was division services coordinator and has left the association. Previously, Machamer was the association's marketing manager. She reports to Kathy Shanahan, vice president of education and membership.

In her new role, Machamer works with United members to solidify the partnership between United and produce businesses , the association said. She is also responsible for marketing membership and services to industry businesses. She works with several United divisions on programs and issues, and to increase networking in the produce industry.
