Edwards Appoints Two Executive VPs

s Super Food Stores here has named Paul Puka and Bob Sherrick executive vice presidents.

Edwards is a division of Ahold USA, Parsippany, N.J.

Puka, formerly vice president of store operations for the South region, has been named executive vice president of store operations. He will be responsible for all aspects of store operations. He succeeds Ed Cormier, who has retired.

In his former post, Puka oversaw 32 stores in New York and south Connecticut. Sherrick, formerly vice president of grocery sales and merchandising for the southern California division of Lucky Stores, Buena Park, Calif., has been named executive vice president of sales and merchandising. He will be responsible for buying, merchandising, advertising, price management, marketing and sales development.

Sherrick's new position had been vacant.

Puka and Sherrick report to Tony Schiano, chief executive officer.

Sal Baio succeeds Puka. Baio was regional director of 18 Philadelphia-area stores for Giant Food Stores, Carlisle, Pa., a division of Ahold. Carl Schlicker has been named vice president of store operations for the North region, which covers Massachusetts, Rhode Island and northern Connecticut. The position had been vacant. Schlicker was director of store operations for the South. Baio and Schlicker report to Puka.

Frank Horacek has been named vice president of real estate, a vacant position. He was vice president of real estate for Ames Department Stores, Rocky Hill, Conn. Horacek reports to Ken Betuker, executive vice president, chief financial officer and chief administrative officer.

3 Furr's Managers Widen Role

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Furr's Supermarkets here said it has expanded the role of its three district managers as a means of shortening the decision-making process and improving information flow.

Bill Small, district manager here, remains in that position. His supervisory role expands from the Albuquerque area to include northern New Mexico stores, a total of 21 Furr's units.

Ray Kostelnik, formerly district manager for northern and eastern New Mexico, will relocate to El Paso, Texas, where he will oversee 21 Furr's stores in El Paso and southern New Mexico.

Rick Garner, formerly district manager for west Texas, will relocate to Furr's new district office in Odessa, Texas, and oversee 22 stores in west Texas and eastern New Mexico.

Small, Kostelnik and Garner report to Richard Kaufman, senior vice president of operations. Supervision of Furr's nine warehouse stores, operating under the names Bag & Save and So:Lo, remains unchanged.

Fleming Adds Ad Services Posts

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fleming Cos. has named two executives advertising services managers, which the distributor said will enable it to serve as an ad agency for its divisions and retail customers.

Chris Parsons, advertising manager for Fleming's Phoenix division, and Mark Harsha, advertising manager for the division here, were named ad services managers, new positions at Fleming offices here.

They will act as account executives responsible for supporting the activities of a group of divisions, with the corporate advertising department serving as a central resource for all divisions, Fleming said. Parsons and Harsha report to Buddy Martensen, director of corporate advertising.

Marci Rollins succeeds Parsons as Phoenix division advertising manager. She was assistant advertising manager. Rollins reports to Tommy Galyen, Phoenix merchandising manager.

Dwight Becker succeeds Harsha as advertising manager for the Oklahoma City division. Becker, formerly ad manager at Fleming's Joplin division, reports to Jim Costello, division president. Becker's previous position was eliminated as part of a merger of the Joplin division with Fleming's Kansas City and Oklahoma City divisions.
