President Named At Stop & Shop
Grize has been given the title of president at Stop & Shop Cos. here.
Formerly executive vice president and chief operating officer, Grize now serves as president and chief operating officer, the company reported. Grize assumes the president's title from Robert G. Tobin, who remains chairman and chief executive officer. The move is mostly a title change and involves no changes in Grize's and Tobin's existing duties, explained spokeswoman Terry Vandewater. "Stop & Shop is very progressive in its succession planning," she said. "This is part of the overall succession plan that has been put in place.
"Mr. Grize is the epitome of a Stop & Shop professional," she added. "It's a well-deserved promotion to someone who really knows the business. His leadership skills and his management skills make him a wonderful president."
As president, Grize supervises transportation, warehousing, labor relations and store operations as well as directing all sales and procurement activities, which were the same duties he had in his previous post. He reports to Tobin.
Grize joined Stop & Shop in 1987 and has held various positions in the company, including marketing manager, personnel manager, director of operations, general sales manager, vice president and senior vice president.
A&P Appoints
Executive VP MONTVALE, N.J. -- Ivan K. Szathmary has been named executive vice president and chief services officer at A&P here.
In the new position, Szathmary reports to Christian Haub, president and chief operating officer. Szathmary's responsibilities are similar to his previous duties as senior vice president and chief of services. In that slot, he oversaw the Compass Foods subsidiary, distributors of Eight O'Clock Coffee, and A&P's management information systems and warehouse and transportation services.
