Harris Joins C&S As Vice Chairman
sale Grocers here said last week Reuben Harris has joined the company as vice chairman. Harris will report directly to Rick Cohen, chief operating officer and chairman. Harris has served on C&S' advisory board for the past six years. Most recently, he was professor of management and chairman of the department of systems management at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif.
C&S also said Ed Albertian has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer of the company. Albertian will report to Ron Wright, president. Most recently, Albertian served as president and chief executive officer of Streamline.com, Westwood, Mass., the now defunct Internet grocer. Previously, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer, Star Market, Cambridge, Mass., and one of the founders of Staples, Framingham, Mass.
Fleming Names Shapiro Senior VP, Finance
DALLAS -- Fleming here said last week it has named Mark D. Shapiro senior vice president, finance. Responsible for accounting and control, he will report to Neal Rider, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Previously, Shapiro was senior vice president and CFO, Big Lots (formerly Consolidated Stores), Columbus, Ohio.
Haggen Promotes andy Haggen to Grocery Buyer
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Haggen Inc. here said last week it has named Andy Haggen grocery buyer in the grocery merchandising department. Andy has worked at different Haggen's locations in a variety of positions, including perishables manager and store manager. Most recently, he served as store manager at the Marysville, Wash., store. Prior to joining Haggen, Andy spent a year as a retail management trainee with Giant Food, Landover, Md., and worked for the employment center at Fry's Food & Drug, Phoenix, Ariz.
Grand Union's Freimark Moves to OfficeMax as CFO
CLEVELAND -- OfficeMax here said last week Jeffrey P. Freimark has been named senior executive vice president and chief financial officer. Freimark, 46, was formerly president and chief executive officer at Grand Union, Wayne, N.J., after serving as the company's chief financial officer and chief administrative officer. Before joining Grand Union, he was executive vice president, CFO and a director of Pueblo International, Pompano Beach, Fla. He began his professional career at Abraham & Strauss, New York, in 1976 and subsequently held financial and accounting positions with Stern's Department Stores and Kings Super Markets, West Caldwell, N.J., from 1978 to 1986. At OfficeMax, Freimark succeeds Jeff Rutherford, who has resigned. OfficeMax operates nearly 1,000 superstores in 49 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with joint-venture partnerships in Mexico and Brazil.
