Fresh Brands' CFO Armand Go Resigns
here last week said that Armand Go, its chief financial officer, is resigning effective Aug. 23 to seek a position that will allow him to spend additional time with his family. Although the company recently said it would restate its earnings for recent years because of accounting errors, the company said Go's resignation was unrelated. Fresh Brands has initiated a search for a replacement. Elwood Winn, president and chief executive officer, was named acting chief financial officer.
Giant Names New Senior VP, Store Operations
LANDOVER, Md. -- Giant Food here named Stephen Neal to the newly created position of senior vice president of store operations. Neal will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the company's store operations. Previously, Neal held a variety of positions with Giant, including vice president, store operations, and first vice president of corporate diversity.
PillIter Joins Trader Joe's AS SR. VP
LOS ANGELES -- Unified Western Grocers here said last week Charles J. Pilliter has resigned as executive vice president and chief operating officer to become senior vice president, operations, at Trader Joe's, Monrovia, Calif., effective Sept. 1. A successor will be named shortly, the company said. Pilliter has been with Unified and its predecessor company, Certified Grocers of California, for 26 years.
Stater Bros. Names Two New Posts
COLTON, Calif. -- Stater Bros. here named two executives to new posts. Dennis McIntyre has been promoted to the newly created position of group senior vice president, marketing. In this position, McIntyre will report to Don Baker, executive vice president and chief operating officer. The company's grocery, meat, produce, bakery and service deli divisions, as well as the marketing and merchandising departments, will report directly to McIntyre in this position. Prior to his promotion, McIntyre served as the company's senior vice president of marketing. He had served in a variety of positions with the company for over 20 years. Also, Stater Bros. named Jim Lee to group senior vice president, retail. Lee will report to Don Baker as well. This position is newly created. Lee will oversee the overall operations of Stater Bros.'s 156 supermarkets in Southern California. Previously, Lee was group vice president at Ralphs Grocery Co., Compton, Calif. Prior to that, he served in a variety of positions for Ralphs, including store-level management positions; he also served as a corporate officer.
Winn-Dixie Elects Board Member
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here named John H. Dasburg to its board of directors. Dasburg currently serves as the chairman, chief executive officer and president of Burger King Corp., Miami. Before that, he served 10 years as the president and CEO of Northwest Airlines, Eagan, Minn. Prior to joining Northwest, Dasburg served as president of Marriott's Lodging Group and executive vice president and chief financial officer of Marriott Corp, Bethesda, Md. Before joining Marriott, he was a partner with KPMG Peat Marwick.
Albertsons Appoints Manager, Kosher Marketing
BOISE, Idaho -- Albertsons here said that Yako M. Yarmove has been appointed corporate kosher marketing and operations manager, a newly created position. Yarmove will be responsible for managing and implementing kosher marketing programs for all divisions of the company. Yarmove will also work closely with division managers, district managers and individual store directors as they implement kosher merchandising efforts. Prior to joining Albertsons, Yarmove was corporate kosher marketing specialist for Price Chopper Supermarkets/Golub Corp., Schenectady, N.Y. Prior to that, he had been the kosher operations manager for the Price Chopper Kosher Stores.
