SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Grocers Association here said Timothy James has been named manager of local government relations in Northern California, a new position in which James will advocate for CGA members before local elected and regulatory officials throughout Northern California. He succeeds Gilbert Canizales, who has been local government director for the entire state since 2001. Canizales, who is based in Long Beach, Calif., will continue to oversee local government relations in Southern California. "With important local issues that impact the bottom line, it became essential that CGA expand its local government staff," said Peter Larkin, CGA president. Prior to joining CGA, James was chief of staff to Roger Niello, a former Sacramento County supervisor.
