Supermarkets here said William J. Coyne, president and chief operating officer, has added the title of chief executive officer. Coyne was named president and COO in April 2002, following the resignation of Michael J. Teel, grandson of the chain's late founder. Teel had held the title of president and CEO, and the CEO position remained vacant until Coyne was named to fill it.

D&W NAMES BLEASE CEO; GIETZEN REMAINS VICE CHAIR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- D&W Food Centers here said last week it has given Doug Blease, the company's president, the additional title of chief executive officer. Blease succeeds Jeff Gietzen, who will remain with the company as vice chairman. Blease, who joined the company in 1976, succeeded Gietzen as president four years ago. Also, D&W said it has promoted Betsy Raymond, formerly the company's executive vice president, to chief administrative officer.

BOURGOINE NAMED PRESIDENT AT AG NEW ENGLAND

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Associated Grocers of New England named Michael Bourgoine president. He will continue in his role as chief operating officer of the regional wholesaling cooperative. The company said Norman J. Turcotte, currently president and chief executive officer, would continue as CEO until his planned retirement this summer. Turcotte began as a full-time employee of AG New England in 1968 and became president in 1977, succeeding his father, Henry J. Turcotte. Before joining AG New England, Bourgoine had worked with the Wetterau Co., a division of Supervalu, Minneapolis.

SPOONER PROMOTED TO DIVISION MANAGER AT WINN-DIXIE

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here has named Brad Spooner division manager of its North Florida Division, thereby giving him the responsibility of leading the operations for 136 locations in northern Florida and southern Georgia. Spooner joined the company in 2002.

FORMER ALBERTSONS EXECUTIVE JOINS SECOND HARVEST

CHICAGO -- Ertharin Cousin, former senior vice president, public relations and government affairs, for Albertsons, Boise, Idaho, told SN last week she has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer at America's Second Harvest here.

Cousin stepped down from her position at Albertsons in November, though she continued to work for the company as a special adviser. Before joining Albertsons, she had spent several years working for Jewel Cos. here before it was acquired by Albertsons in 1999.

CABRERA NAMED VP-FINANCE AT SAFEWAY.COM

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway.com here last week said it has promoted Gilbert Cabrera to the position of vice president, finance. Cabrera joined Safeway.com in September 2001 as corporate controller. He has responsibility for financial planning and analysis, and all accounting functions for the company, which operates in eight western U.S. metropolitan areas under the Safeway.com and Vons.com brands. Cabrera previously held management positions in corporate financial planning and corporate accounting for Safeway and Randall's Food Markets, Houston, which was acquired by Safeway in 1999.
