two new vice presidents for its store operations and marketing departments. Larry Stepp was promoted to vice president, Hispanic operations. Mike Mortensen was named vice president, grocery/liquor/fuel.

Stepp will develop and implement sales-building programs in largely Hispanic areas of California and Nevada. Prior to his promotion, he served as a zone manager in Southern California. He reports to Bryan Kaltenbach, group vice president, store operations.

Mortensen will be responsible for the sales and marketing of Food 4 Less' grocery, liquor and fuel departments. Mortensen most recently was director of grocery for the chain. He reports to Bob McKee, senior vice president, sales and marketing.

SCHNUCKS PROMOTES FLACKE TO LABOR RELATIONS VP

ST. LOUIS -- Schnuck Markets here said Robert J. Flacke is its new vice president of labor relations. Flacke, who most recently was the chain's director of labor relations, will coordinate labor initiatives for Schnucks' management personnel responsible for more than 16,000 Schnucks and Logli associates in six states. He also serves as chief negotiator for The Greater St. Louis Food Employers Council, which is comprised of the area's three largest union grocers: Schnucks, Dierbergs and Shop 'n Save. Flacke reports to Bill Jones, vice president of human resources.

AG NEW ENGLAND NAMES BRADBURY VICE CHAIRMAN

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Associate Grocers of New England here has appointed retail grocer Thomas E. Bradbury to vice chairman of its board of directors. Bradbury has served on the AG New England board since 1997. Prior to that, he was a member of AG New England's Retail Advisory Council. He is president of Bradbury Brothers Market in Cape Porpoise, Maine, and Bradbury Brothers Quick Stop in Biddeford, Maine. In addition, he is executive director of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, and is on the advisory boards of both the University of New England and the Main Coast Heritage Trust.

FMI APPOINTS VON ZASTROW TO SENIOR DIRECTOR POST

WASHINGTON -- Food Marketing Institute here said it has promoted Jeanne von Zastrow to senior director, field services. In this position, von Zastrow will act as the primary liaison between FMI leadership and the food industry in the western half of the United States. Her tasks will include the provision of customized information and services to FMI members; identification of industry trends and assessment member needs; and the provision of member ideas and input to FMI for the development of new programs and services. Additionally, she will be responsible for developing and facilitating FMI's Natural Foods and Next Generation share groups. An 18-year FMI veteran, von Zastrow reports to Jeff Rumachik, group director, field services.
