DeBoer succeeds James Egan, who was appointed vice president of Bloom, a Food Lion retail test concept with a focus on fresh foods. In her new position, DeBoer is responsible for all aspects of Food Lion's deli, bakery and home meal solutions operations, including strategic planning, merchandising, product assortment, quality assurance, vendor relations, and employee training and development. She reports to Derrick Penick, senior vice president of fresh merchandising and distribution. Previously, DeBoer was Food Lion's director of private-label brand development and director of regional merchandising. Before coming to Food Lion, DeBoer worked at Nash Finch Co. as vice president of merchandising, pharmacy, marketing and advertising. Food Lion operates more than 1,200 stores in 11 states.

PRICE CHOPPER PROMOTES BAKERY MERCHANDISER

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper Supermarkets has promoted Mark Brown to director of bakery operations. Brown succeeds Carl Richardson, who has retired from Price Chopper. In his new position, Brown is responsible for merchandising, sales and profits on bakery operations for the 110-store chain. Formerly a store manager and manager of bakery merchandising for Price Chopper, Brown reports to Jerry Golub, vice president of perishables. Before joining Price Chopper, Brown worked in operations for Wakefern Food Corp., Elizabeth, N.J.
