UWG NAMES DAVIS TO ONE-YEAR CHAIRMANSHIP

LOS ANGELES -- Directors of Unified Western Grocers here, a retailer-owned wholesale grocery cooperative, named Edmund Kevin Davis as the chairman of the board. Davis currently serves as the chairman, president and chief executive officer at Bristol Farms Markets, Carson, Calif. He will retain that position throughout his one-year term as chairman of the board of UWG. Last year, Davis served as first vice chairman of UWG's board. He succeeds Louis A. Amen, chairman, Super A Foods, also based here, who will remain as a director of UWG.

NOVAK JOINS WINN-DIXIE AS DEVELOPMENT CHIEF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here appointed Paul Novak as chief development officer. Novak will report to Frank Lazaran, Winn-Dixie president and chief executive officer, and will be responsible for the real estate, design and construction efforts and overall asset management of all 1,078 Winn-Dixie locations. His responsibilities will also include overseeing strategic priorities for store-image makeovers. He most recently held the position of executive vice president and chief development officer at Burger King Corp.'s North American division, in charge of development, design, construction and asset management. Novak succeeds Dennis Sheehan, senior vice president of real estate, who has resigned, the company said.
