it has hired David D'Arezzo as chief operating officer, effective next month.

D'Arezzo will leave his post as executive vice president of merchandising for Office Depot, Delray Beach, Fla., to join Raley's, where he will succeed Bill Coyne as COO. Coyne will retain his title of president of the 134-store chain.

Prior to joining Office Depot in August 1992, D'Arezzo spent eight years with Wegmans Food Markets, Rochester, N.Y., where he ultimately held the post of senior vice president, merchandising, with responsibilities for grocery, dairy, frozen, bulk and natural food merchandising.

Earlier in his career, he worked for PepsiCo in marketing and business development following two years in the mid-1980s as a single-store IGA operator in the San Francisco Bay area.

SUPERVALU NAMES DALY, PETERSON TO BOARD

MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here said last week it has named two new members to its board of directors. Ronald Daly is president and chief executive officer, Oce-USA Holding, a Chicago-based company that sells and leases printing supplies, and Marissa Peterson is executive vice president, worldwide operations, Sun Microsystems, the Santa Clara, Calif.-based technology company. With their appointments, which are effective immediately, Supervalu's board now consists of 11 outsiders and one member of the company's senior management, Jeff Noddle, Supervalu's chairman and CEO.

FRESH BRANDS LOSES ANOTHER CFO AS PLUMLEY EXITS

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Fresh Brands here said S. Patric Plumley would no longer be the company's chief financial officer. The company said his departure this month was "not related to any accounting or financial issues." Plumley had been hired as CFO, treasurer and secretary in January to fill a vacancy created by the departure of Armand Go last August. Elwood F. Winn, president and chief executive officer, will serve as acting CFO during a search for a replacement for Plumley.

SIMONDELIVERS HIRES NASH FINCH EXECUTIVE

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- SimonDelivers, an online grocer here, named Christopher A. Brown chief executive officer. He succeeds Simon Foster, the founder of the company, who remains chairman. Brown has 20 years of food-retailing experience, most recently having worked at Nash Finch, Minneapolis, as executive vice president of merchandising. SimonDelivers, which offers consumer packaged goods, produce, meats and baked goods, said it plans to expand its services to Rochester, Minn., and Hudson, Wis., and will launch in Des Moines, Iowa, in October. Nash Finch said it is seeking a successor to Brown.
