Calfas most recently was president of Safeway's Northern California division. Karl Schroeder, who had been president of Safeway's Eastern division since 2002, will succeed him in that position. Hank Cominiello, vice president, retail operations, Eastern division, will serve as acting president of the division until a permanent replacement is named. As part of the nonperishables reorganization, the following senior vice presidents and group general managers were named: Jim Lewis, meals and dry grocery; Henry Michon, dairy, refrigerated and frozen foods; David Lee, beverages, alcohol, snacks and tobacco; David Fong, health and wellness; and Bob Shelton, home care and general merchandise.

SUPERVALU TAPS PYLIPOW TO HEAD HUMAN RESOURCES

MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here said last week it has named David Pylipow senior vice president of human resources. He succeeds Ron Tortelli, who will retire at the end of the year after 36 years. Pylipow will be responsible for human resource functions, including talent management, employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits, leadership and organizational development. He will oversee the office services organization at the company's headquarters location. He will report to Jeff Noddle, chairman and chief executive officer. Pylipow was promoted from Save-A-Lot, where he was also senior vice president of human resources.

WHOLE FOODS PROMOTES TWO TO REGIONAL PRESIDENTS

AUSTIN, Texas -- Whole Foods Market here announced promotions of Patrick Bradley to president of the Midwest region and Scott Allshouse to president of the South division. Both vacancies were created by recent transfers of division presidents to new regions. Bradley most recently was vice president of the Southern Pacific region and previously served as a team leader. He joined Whole Foods when it purchased Gooch's Natural Food Markets in 1993. Allshouse is a former store team leader and most recently served as vice president of the South region.

NASH FINCH ELEVATES THREE TO VICE PRESIDENT POSTS

MINNEAPOLIS -- Nash Finch here said last week it has named Salvatore Baio, Robert J. Dernbach and Terry J. Littrell to vice president positions, effective immediately. Baio, the new vice president of perishable procurement, joined Nash Finch in September. He has more than 30 years of food industry experience with Fortuna Food Brokers, Tops Market, Ahold, Giant Food and Pathmark. Dernbach, named vice president of nonperishable merchandising, most recently served as Nash Finch's senior director of merchandising. Littrell was named vice president of the Southeast region. He first joined Nash Finch in 1991, and was most recently senior director of the Southeast region.
