SAFEWAY TAPS KEPRTA AS NEW DOMINICK'S PRESIDENT
k that Bruce Everette, executive vice president, who has been responsible for leading the Dominick's division in Chicago since September 2004, will return to the company's headquarters here "to take on broader retail responsibilities." His successor as president of Dominick's will be Don Keprta, a former longtime Lucky Stores executive who has been serving as vice president of retail support at Dominick's since March. Keprta began his career in food retailing over 35 years ago with Lucky. After the chain was acquired by Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons, he became the Northern California region president for that company, overseeing about 200 stores. Subsequently, he became senior vice president, retail, for Andronico's Markets, Albany, Calif., before joining Safeway in February of this year.
FOODARAMA'S SAKER RETIRES AS EXECUTIVE OFFICER
FREEHOLD, N.J. -- Joseph Saker, founder and chairman of Foodarama Supermarkets, retired as an executive officer on Oct. 29, when the term of his employment agreement with the company ended. He will continue to serve as chairman of the company's board of directors. Saker relinquished his position as chief executive officer of the company in 2003, and was succeeded by his son, Richard J. Saker. Foodarama was founded by the elder Saker in 1958. The company operates 27 supermarkets in central New Jersey, as well as two liquor stores and one garden center, all licensed as Shop-Rite.
