Schnuck Markets Names Scott Schnuck CEO

As part of the transition, Todd Schnuck, the former chief financial officer and brother of Craig and Scott, has been named executive vice president. Craig Schnuck, 57, has served as CEO of the $2.2 billion retailer since 1989. The company said that within a year, he would become chairman of the executive committee, with Scott Schnuck, 55, adding chairman to his title and Todd Schnuck, 47, becoming president. "I have been privileged to have had the opportunity to lead the company; now it's time that Scott and Todd be given the opportunity to advance and show the depth of the experience they've gained," Craig Schnuck said in a statement.
Puckett Leaves United Natural as EVP and CFO
DAYVILLE, Conn. - United Natural Foods said last week that Rick Puckett resigned as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, effective Jan. 27, to accept the executive vice president and CFO position at Lance, a Charlotte, N.C.-based snack food maker. Puckett has been with United Natural since January 2003. Mark E. Shamber, vice president and corporate controller of United Natural, has been appointed to the new position of chief accounting officer and will serve as acting CFO and treasurer. Puckett's departure follows the October resignation of Steven H. Townsend, United's former chairman, president and CEO.
Seattle Cooperative Names Brumley VP of HR
SEATTLE - Associated Grocers here said David L. Brumley has joined the company as vice president of human resources. He succeeds Dick Harding, who left the company after just over three years in the position. Brumley, 56, has spent the last couple of years running his own human resources and strategic planning consulting firm, based in Tulsa, Okla. He spent two years with Randalls Food Markets, Houston, as vice president, human resources, after holding the same title at Fleming Cos. following its acquisition of Scrivner in 1994. Brumley joined Scrivner in 1980.
Stater Promotes Lee to EVP, Retail Operations
COLTON, Calif. - Stater Bros. Markets here has named Jim Lee executive vice president, retail operations and administration, a new position. Lee has held the title of group senior vice president, retail operations, since joining Stater in 2002 after serving as chief operating officer of Wild Oats Markets, Boulder, Colo, from 1996 to 2001. He spent the prior 25 years at Ralphs Grocery Co., Compton, Calif. Lee will report to Don Baker, president and chief operating officer.
Wal-Mart Picks Auto Marketer for New Position
BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart Stores U.S.A. here last week named Julie Roehm senior vice president of marketing communications. In the newly created position, Roehm will be responsible for the overall development and execution of advertising strategies, creative services and special events. She will report to John Fleming, Wal-Mart's chief marketing officer. Roehm most recently was director of marketing communications for the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands.
GroceryWorks Names Gutermuth President
PLEASANTON, Calif. - GroceryWorks here, which provides online shopping services for Safeway.com, said it has named Matt Gutermuth president. He succeeds Mitchell Rhodes, who left the company at the end of 2005. Gutermuth most recently was vice president, operational initiatives at Safeway. He joined the company in 2002 after five years with Nabisco, where he held several marketing positions, and before that he spent nine years at Pepsi-Cola. GroceryWorks is owned by both Safeway and British retailer Tesco.
