WASHINGTON -- Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson and Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman met with representatives of the nation's quick-service restaurant industry to encourage them to offer more fruit and vegetable options on their menus. The meeting was the result of a suggestion made earlier this year by the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association and the Produce for Better Health Foundation. PBH has already developed a quick guide featuring 50 tips for adding fruits and vegetables on menus, as well as promotion ideas for food-service operators. Secretaries Thompson and Veneman also announced plans to meet with the soft drink and other food industries to engage them in similar dialog about the need to assist children and adults with healthier food choices.
