Supermarkets are far and away the leading class of trade when it comes to sanitary napkin category sales, with more than double the dollar volume of their drug store and mass merchant competitors, according to Nielsen North America, Schaumburg, Ill. Mass merchants, however, are seeing the fastest growth in the category, posting double-digit sales gains over the 12 months ended Sept. 10, 1994.
