Jitney-Jungle Stores of America, Jackson, Miss., told SN last week it expects to announce the sale of an unspecified number of stores during the next few weeks as it exits certain markets as part of its restructuring under Chapter 11. Ron Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer, said the company closed 19 stores in February that it could not sell, including seven in Louisiana, five in Alabama, four in Mississippi and three in Florida. He said there could be a handful of additional closings in markets where prospective buyers want some but not all the stores Jitney operates there.
