DELHAIZE, Brussels, Belgium, said it has authorized management to purchase up to 5 million shares of Delhaize America, its U.S. operating company, to underline its strong commitment to the company's longterm U.S. strategy. Delhaize's U.S. operations include Food Lion, Salisbury, N.C., and Kash N' Karry Food Stores, Tampa, Fla. Delhaize announced plans earlier this year to acquire Hannaford Bros. Markets, Scarborough, Maine.
