INGLES MARKETS, Black Mountain, N.C., said net sales for the 12-week third quarter ended June 28 increased 4.3% to $386.4 million, compared with $370.4 million a year ago. Net income for the period was down 17%% to $4.9 million, or 22 cents per share, compared with $5.9 million, or 29 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. Robert P. Ingle, chairman and chief executive officer, said sales were affected by increased competition, including pressure from new Ingles units, near existing stores.
