ON-LINE PHARMACY DRUGSTORE.COM, Redmond, Wash., said Amazon.com, Seattle, acquired a large minority stake in the startup, which made its debut last week. Amazon said it controls about 46% of Drugstore.com's outstanding shares. Jeffrey Bezos, chairman and chief executive officer of Amazon, the Internet's top book and music retailer, said visitors to Amazon's Web site will be encouraged to try Drugstore.com, which plans to offer more than 15,000 over-the-counter health and beauty products as well as prescription drugs.
