Quality Food Centers, Bellevue, Wash., reported sales for the 12-week first quarter ended March 23 rose 27.1% to $176.6 million, while same-store sales rose nearly 1%. Net income fell 9.6% to $4.7 million, excluding a one-time charge in last year's first quarter of $1.4 million. With the charge included in the year-ago period, earnings for the quarter were up 23.7%.
