WASHINGTON -- The Food Marketing Institute here said it plans to move its headquarters in the fall of 1999.

it is at the FMI's current location, Karen Brown, senior vice president of communications, told SN.

The new offices will be at 655 15th St., N.W., between F Street and G Street, across from the U.S. Treasury Building. The new 56,000-square-foot offices will give the FMI room to grow, Brown said, and there is a more favorable long-term lease.

The FMI has been at its current location -- 800 Connecticut Ave., N.W. -- for five years. Brown said the institute hopes to keep the same phone number when it moves.

In a separate matter, FMI executives told SN there have been no developments in talks with the city of Chicago about hidden labor costs and inflated hotel rates during the FMI's annual convention there. The FMI complained about those problems earlier this year in a letter to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, and the city said it was responding by asking the entire trade show community to work to improve the situation.
