FOOD LION PROMOTES CANIPE TO VP, BUSINESS STRATEGY

of Delhaize America, last week named Robert Canipe vice president of business strategy, a new position. Canipe takes over some of the responsibility of Keith Gehl, who has recently left the company, by heading company research and analysis. He comes into this position after serving as director of strategic business analysis. Previous to his employment at Food Lion, Canipe worked at Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, most recently as associate director of finance in the North American baby care products organization. Food Lion operates more than 1,190 stores in 11 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.

WINN-DIXIE NAMES LAFEVER, JUDD TO NEW POSTS

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie here last week appointed Daniel G. Lafever as vice president and division manager for the Central Florida division, succeeding Mark Sellers. Lafever will oversee operations for 150 stores, two distribution centers and one manufacturing center. Since 1966 Lafever has held numerous positions at Winn-Dixie, most recently senior vice president of sales and procurement. Prior to that, he was division president for Central Florida and Kentucky. Lafever now reports to John Sheehan, senior vice president of operations.

To succeed Lafever, Winn-Dixie also named Richard C. Judd senior vice president of supply chain merchandising. Judd oversees sales, procurement, logistics and manufacturing. Prior to his promotion, Judd served as vice president of warehousing and distribution. He was employed for over 20 years at Fleming, Dallas, before joining Winn-Dixie in 2001, most recently as senior vice president of supply. Judd now reports to Frank Lazaran, president and chief executive officer of Winn-Dixie.
