SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion, a subsidiary of Belgian-owned Delhaize America, named two senior vice presidents of retail operations to oversee its two new regions that the company incorporated from five geographic divisions last week. Elwyn Murray, a 13-year Food Lion veteran who most recently was senior vice president of procurement and distribution, was named to lead the Northern operations, which include the company's Northern and Atlantic divisions. Cindy Schlaepfer, who joined Food Lion earlier this year from sister chain Hannaford Bros., will lead the Southern operations, including its Southern, Western and Central divisions. Murray and Schlaepfer replace Dave Morgan, former vice president of retail operations, who left the company earlier this month to spend time with his family, according to a Food Lion spokesman. In other changes announced last week, Food Lion elevated Darrell Johnson to senior vice president of human resources and gave additional responsibilities to Robert Brunory, senior vice president of fresh merchandising, and Meg Ham, senior vice president of dry merchandising. Brunory will now oversee distribution and quality assurance, while Ham will oversee procurement and supply chain management.
