PRICHARD, Ala. -- Autrey Greer & Sons here continues its aggressive expansion of the Food Tiger banner.
r, and it expects to convert approximately 10 Greer & Sons stores to the Food Tiger banner as it remodels and expands them over the next three years. According to Hugh Mattox, director of marketing and merchandising, all the stores slated for conversion range from 12,000 square feet to 16,000 square feet. Under the larger Food Tiger format, those units will be expanded to about 25,000 square feet to accommodate the addition of service delis and a wider variety in all categories.
The stores will also switch from high-low pricing to everyday low pricing, Mattox said. Prior to the IGA acquisition, the company had converted 22 of its 40 Greer & Sons locations to Food Tigers over the past two years -- 17 in Alabama and five in Mississippi.
The remaining eight stores, all in smaller towns in Alabama and Mississippi, will retain the Greer & Sons banner "because they are the only show in town, and we'll probably leave them alone," Mattox told SN.
The Cantonment store is the company's second in Florida, about seven miles north of Pensacola. The chain's other Florida store is located 30 miles north of Pensacola in Jay. Greer & Sons now has 22 stores in Alabama, 17 in Mississippi and two in Florida.
