FOODARAMA SAYS STORE OPENINGS SPARK SALES

FREEHOLD, N.J. -- Sales were up 12% and earnings jumped 51% during the fiscal third quarter for Foodarama Supermarkets here.

Foodarama said a new store opened in February in Branchburg, N.J., and the April opening of a replacement store in Wall, N.J., helped spark sales.

Earnings were up 51% to $636,000 of 57 cents per share, from $421,000 or 38 cents per share. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization was $6.1 million, up from $4.9 million.

For the 39 weeks ended July 29, Foodarama reported sales of $662 million, up 10% from $602 million. Earnings were up 31.7% to $1.8 million.
