ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Four new members have joined the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative here and will operate ShopRite Supermarkets. Speaking at the cooperative's annual meeting, Thomas P. Infusino, chairman and chief executive officer, said the four new members are:
executive vice president, operations, for A&P, Montvale, N.J., who resigned in April and is buying two existing ShopRites in Allentown and Bethlehem, Pa. The two stores had been operated by Foodarama Supermarkets, Freehold, N.J.
William Glazier, who opened a new ShopRite in Cheltenham, Pa., near Philadelphia, in March.
Lance Rubin, who will open a new ShopRite in Glen Cove, L.I., in June.
A Wakefern spokesperson couldn't be reached for further comment about the new members.
Wakefern's sales for 1994 were $3.74 billion -- an increase of 0.3% over the $3.73 billion it recorded a year ago. "It was not an easy year [because] we operate in a region where competition is intense," Infusino said. "But we intend to keep up the pressure and defend our No. 1 market-leader position in 1995." ShopRite supplies products and services to 182 ShopRite stores -- a net gain of two units over last year's figure -- most of which are independently owned, in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Delaware.
