ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Furr's Supermarkets here said last week Tom Dahlen has been named president and chief executive officer, effective tomorrow.
hlen inherits the title of president from Buz Doyle, who resigned in June after six years as president and chief operating officer of Furr's.
Jan Friederich will continue as Furr's chairman, though he is giving up the CEO title.
According to Dahlen, Furr's immediate focus "will be to continue with the company's capital-expenditure and store-improvement program," while using its move to self-distribution to expand its position in the New Mexico marketplace.
Furr's operates 70 stores in New Mexico and west Texas, with annual sales of approximately $1 billion.
