Jan Friederich will continue as Furr's chairman, though he is giving up the CEO title.
According to Dahlen, Furr's immediate focus "will be to continue with the company's capital-expenditure and store-improvement program," while using its move to self-distribution to expand its position in the New Mexico marketplace.
Furr's operates 70 stores in New Mexico and west Texas, with annual sales of approximately $1 billion.
