ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Furr's Supermarkets here said it has created a new corporate management structure "to build operational efficiencies and to better serve customers."

Under the new structure, the company said:
Gene Denison, senior vice president, will head retail operations services. The SBU will be responsible for construction, planning and engineering and real estate.
Steve Mortensen, senior vice president and chief financial officer, will oversee financial services, and the newly formed Furr's Foundation, which will continue the company's investment in the community and charitable giving.
Delwyn James, senior vice president, will direct the new corporate services SBU, which will focus on headquarters efficiency, including responsibility for human resources, administration, safety and risk management.
A senior vice president for sales and marketing services will be named shortly, with oversight of procurement, marketing, public relations and warehouse distribution.
