GMA ASKS EXTENSION FOR BIOTERRORISM COMPLIANCE

WASHINGTON -- In comments submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration last week regarding FDA's implementation of the "prior notice of food import requirements" in the Bioterrorism Act of 2002, Grocery Manufacturers of America suggested that the FDA "extend the education phase and provide specific feedback to companies regarding incomplete prior notices," said Susan Stout, GMA's vice president of federal affairs. Under the act, food and beverage companies are required to submit prior notice before importing foods for human consumption.
