WASHINGTON -- Grocery Manufacturers of America here said its 2002 Executive Conference will focus on both the nation's and food industry's heritage and current challenges.

June 7 to 10 at the Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

"In planning the event," Baum said, "we were very aware of two things at once: the tradition of the Greenbrier and that there's so much history and heritage within our industry."

The conference themes are reflected in GMA's choice of two of its keynote speakers: David McCullough, author of a best-selling biography of John Adams, and Rudolph Giuliani, the former New York mayor.

Baum noted that the conference has added a business keynoter, John Chambers, chief executive officer, Cisco Systems, San Jose, who can be expected to speak on both "the hits his company took last year and potential alliances between blue-chip technology companies and members of our industry." The conference will also feature Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, and Robert Reich, the former U.S. secretary of labor. Industry speakers scheduled to address the event include Rick Cohen, CEO, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Brattleboro, Vt.; James Donald, president and CEO, Pathmark Stores, Carteret, N.J.; and Joseph Pichler, chairman and CEO, Kroger Co., Cincinnati.
